Power and Society: Past and Present

Status:Active, open to new members
Coordinator:

Around 12,000 years ago, the adoption of agriculture changed the human story forever. This new discussion group will explore how our modern world has been shaped by deep historical forces, with a particular focus on the development and impact of patriarchy.

We aim to tackle a wide-ranging "all-embracing" agenda, including:
·         Power and conflict: The origins of war, crime, and social inequality.

·         Patriarchy: To what extent has it shaped our systems of war, religion, and ecology?

·         Beliefs: The role of organized religion.

·         Identity politics: Civil rights, gay rights, feminism and gender ideology.

·         The Future: New frontiers like transhumanism.

·         Our Planet: Our changing relationship with the environment and the non-human world: human supremacism, domination, dominion, stewardship or cohabitation.
Meetings will be a mix of pre-planned topics and discussions based on current news. This is a collaborative discussion group that welcomes all points of view. As yet there are no firm meeting dates - this is being posted to evaluate interest. Please contact the group leader above for more information.
